Pine Creek Veterinary Hospital's Pet Dental Care

Skilled Pet Dentist in Colorado Springs
Clean teeth and a healthy mouth are the pathway to good health for your pet. Proper dental care is about more than just preventing "doggy breath" — plaque and tartar build-up on your pet’s teeth can lead to periodontal disease, which can eventually damage your pet’s liver, kidneys, heart and other organs.
Digital Dental X-Ray
We have invested in the latest digital dental x-ray technology to better diagnose your pet’s dental problems. We use Corix X-Ray equipment featuring Bio-Ray digital dental x-ray software. This advanced equipment allows us to spot tooth fractures and find areas of the gums and teeth where periodontal disease is present. Our dental technicians are specially trained in the use and operation of this equipment. By using digital x-ray technology, our veterinarians and staff have access to fast, accurate radiographs, decreasing the time it takes to treat your pet.
What To Look For
If your pet is exhibiting any of the following symptoms, he or she may have periodontal disease:
- Discomfort while chewing
- Difficulty swallowing
- Pawing at the mouth
- Inflamed or bleeding gums
- Bad breath
Your Pet's Dental Cleaning
When it comes to dental care, prevention is the key. Pine Creek Veterinary Hospital offers all clients state-of-the-art dental cleaning procedures performed by our trained and dedicated dental technicians. Before a dental cleaning, every pet undergoes a thorough physical examination. Using the results of the examination, we develop an anesthesia protocol specifically for your pet, ensuring that he or she is comfortable and stress-free during the dental cleaning.

As part of the dental cleaning, we use a hand scaler to remove tartar from your pet's teeth. We then use a periodontal probe to check for pockets under the gumline where periodontal disease and bad breath start. An ultrasonic scaler is then used to clean teeth above the gumline and a curette is used to clean and smooth parts of the tooth below the gumline. Your pet's teeth are then polished and his or her gums are washed with an anti-bacterial solution to prevent future tartar build-up.
Because your pet is anesthestitized during a dental cleaning, we monitor his or her vital signs closely using sophisticated monitoring equipment. Blankets and warming pads are used to keep your pet warm and comfortable and a trained veterinary technician watches over your pet during the procedure.
You can continue your pet's dental care at home. A staff member can show you how to brush your pet's teeth at home and can provide recommendations about specially-formulated food and treats that promote good dental health.
